Hiking opportunities are everywhere – whether by walking a trail, logging road or through the bush.

With the Crawford Reservoir and Black Canyon National Park to the south, Needlerock and the extensive West Elk Mountains to the east, and vast portions of Delta County managed by the BLM (Bureau of Land Management) there is literally a lifetime of outdoors adventures awaiting!

Explore the Backcountry in Hotchkiss…

If you are planning to do some back country adventuring in the immediate Hotchkiss area then you will want to drive up into the Leroux Creek area located just northwest of town.

Experience the Amazing Beauty of Local Peaks in Paonia…

You might notice that when you travel up the valley to Paonia that the mountains suddenly seem closer. Mount Lamborn looms over the town like a beautiful brooding giant. The taller, but more distant, Mount Gunnison behind it to the east seems within walking distance in the clear Colorado mountain air.

Like everyone else who decides to spend some quality time visiting this valley, you will probably feel the urge to get out into and maybe up on top of, these mountains.

Here are a few of the best hikes:

Mount Lamborn Trail
Minnesota Creek Road
The West Elk Wilderness
Steven’s Gulch Road
